PRIOR EVENTS
July 19, 2011 - Our dine out night at TGIF'S in Allentown was a great success! TGIF'S is giving back $386.00 to the ALS Association and our Walk to Defeat ALS. We also kicked off our raffle ticket sales with benefits going to our team's fundraising efforts for our Walk. This was a great way to kick off our 2011 fundraising and it was great to see so many friends & family members joining us for a night out. Many thanks to everyone for your continued support to help Strike Out ALS!
October 23,2010 - The 8th Annual Walk to Defeat ALS was held at Coca-Cola Park, the home of the IronPigs. It was an absolutely beautiful day with thousands of walkers who came out to support their PALS and raising over $165,000 for the ALS Association Philadelphia Chapter. Donna's Dugout was the 2nd highest fundraising team, raising over $10,000. Our team has raised almost $75,000 for 5 years. It was another spectacular event and with a still bleak economy we were still able to raise a lot of money to benefit The ALS Association and their mission to lead the fight to cure and treat ALS through global research and nationwide advocacy while also empowering people with Lou Gehrig’s Disease and their families to live fuller lives by providing them with compassionate care and support.
August 29, 2010 - The 4th Annual ALS Charity Softball game featuring the Phillies Ballgirls vs. The Allentown Patriots Old-Timers returned to Patriots Park in Allentown. Another strong outing by the Old-Timers by the Ballgirls left with another win and are now 4-0. We were entertained with the Philadelphia Eagles mascot, Swoop who played softball with the girls during the first game and then the one and only Phillie Phanatic danced his way with the fans. There were plenty of chinese auction items as well as many silent auction items including many autographed Phillies and Eagles items, boxing gloves from Larry Holmes and a favorite the Tijuana Taxi. The event raised over $5,600!
October 10, 2009 – The 7th Annual Walk to Defeat ALS was held this year for the first time at Coca-Cola Park , the home of the IronPigs. Although we had a cool misty rain it did not interfere with the enthusiasm of the 63 teams and thousands of walkers who came out to support their PALS and raising $144,892. Donna's Dugout was the third highest fundraising team, raising $10,000. It was a spectacular event and with a very down and bleak economy we were still able to raise a lot of money to benefit The ALS Association.
August 23, 2009 – THE PHILLIES BALLGIRLS returned to Patriots Park in Allentown with their third consecutive win and the Patriots Old-Timers looking to 2010 and picking up their first win. The Parkland Softball Alumni took the field against the Patriots Old-Timers prior to the Ballgirls game and were joined by FeFe and Ferrous, mascots of the IronPigs. The Phillie Phanatic then joined the Ballgirls in the second game and was a sure fan favorite. Miss WALN Polkafest, Heather Edelen, joined us and led the fans in the chicken dance. It was a great time for young and old while raising $4,300.00 to benefit the ALS Association. Check back for details of the return of the Ballgirls in 2010.
October 11, 2008 –The 6th Annual Lehigh Valley Walk to Defeat ALS was a great success. Donna's Dugout team raised $17,000 and the entire walk surpassed their goal of $130,000. Thanks to all who participated! It was a leisurely less than 3 mile walk starting at Lehigh Valley College that went through the Promenade Shops in Saucon Valley.
August 23, 2008 - It was a grand night for the Parkland Softball Alumni. Twenty-six former softball players from 1975-2007 participated in an ALS charity game against The Morning Call Sports Department. What a reunion it was! Denny Barr, former coach and current coach, Glen Ray joined the team members as coaches and Denny also joined in to play. The Morning Call Sports Department featured Keith Groller and 2 former Parkland grads, Roger Pence and Ernie Long who played in honor of Larry O’Rourke who recently was diagnosed with ALS. $1,972.00 was raised from the event that went to The ALS Association to support research into the cause, cure and treatments for ALS. It was so great to see all the players lined up on the first base line after each player was introduced with some history on each of them by Keith Groller. The photo gallery is up! The players are already talking about another reunion again next year. I want to thank everyone who participated in this charity event for coming out and supporting me and my mission of raising awareness of ALS and hopefully finding a cure or treatments for ALS. The families of all the Parkland & Morning Call players joined Donna's family & friends for a picnic under the pavilion after the game.
August 2, 2008 - It was a come from behind 11-10 win in the 9th inning for the Phillies Ballgirls over the Allentown Patriots Old Timers. Raising $3,027.00 for The ALS Association to support research into the cause, cure and treatments of ALS was another successful event. The event had many memorable moments with some great plays by the Ballgirls and the geriatric Patriot Old Timers. Watching the kids participate in a ping-pong and dizzy bat challenge and the adults also participating in a ping-pong challenge showing their athletic skills was lots of fun. The live auction of a Phillies Ballgirls autographed ball and t-shirt that went for $60.00 was a bidding battle that started at $10.00. The photo gallery is up and filled with lots of great memories to be seen in the pictures. Thanks to all the players and the fans that came out to support my mission of raising awareness and funds for research into the cause, cure and treatments of ALS. July 28, 2008 - ALS Phillies Phestival at Citizens Bank Park - IT WAS A NIGHT TO REMEMBER!
I'm in my final push to get things ready for Saturday's game. Then I have 3 weeks to prepare for the Parkland, Morning Call game. It's just one thing after another. Fun but not enough time to enjoy what just happened Monday night.
It was AMAZING! Overwhelming at times and exhausting but an absolutely wonderful experience. Ryan Howard, Brad Lidge, Jamie Moyer, Chris Coste, & Cole Hamels were very friendly and took the time to talk with me. Harry Kalas was also nice and spoke to me. Shane Victorino greeted me and signed his jersey and he was off like he was after a fly ball. Carlos Ruiz greeted me and signed but nothing to really say. Jimmy Rollins was in but was very talkative with people and only made it half way around the room and they rushed him out to a photo booth commitment. I was able to get a picture with him. Oh and a dance with the Phanatic. Chase Utley and Pat Burrell were not in the media room but my social worker and her son were able to get jerseys signed by both of them. Two of the people I really wanted to meet but unfortunately I wasn't able to. I also got a pink striped jersey autographed by 10 wives and girlfriends of the players. They were all very friendly and many took the time to talk with me. Of course all were very cute. I'm still in awe of the entire evening. I can only hope that I may have another opportunity to do this.
April 27, 2008- Parkland High School Leo Club Bowl-a-thon - The Leo Club bowl-a-thon was a great success raising $2,300 for Donna’s Dugout walk team to support ALS research and patient services. A BIG THANKS to all who participated in bowling and all who donated to a worthy cause. "Striking Out ALS One Pitch At A Time!"
March 29, 2008 - Evening Out for Donna's Partnership for Life
